Front-End Lead Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Front-End Engineer to drive the development of modern, scalable, and user-centric web applications. This role is hands-on and technically deep, with ownership of significant parts of the front-end from design through to production. The ideal candidate is passionate about clean architecture, design systems, and delivering seamless user experiences in complex, data-driven environments, and takes pride in raising the standard of the codebase and the engineers around them.

What you’ll do

• Design, develop and deliver front-end applications, owning features end to end.
• Contribute to front-end architecture, coding standards and best practices, and apply them consistently.
• Build and evolve a shared design system and library of reusable UI components.
• Integrate front-end applications with backend REST APIs, handling authentication, error states and asynchronous data properly.
• Ensure interfaces are responsive, accessible (WCAG AA) and cross-browser compatible.
• Optimize application performance, bundle size and maintainability.
• Write and maintain automated tests (unit, component and end-to-end).
• Review your colleagues' code, mentor less experienced engineers, and raise the quality bar of the team.
• Write clear technical documentation and design notes on Confluence.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines for front-end builds and deployments.
• Participate in daily, weekly and monthly team ceremonies and planning.

What you’ll bring

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on front-end development experience.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5 and modern CSS.
• Deep experience with React, including hooks, composition patterns and modern routing.
• Experience with server-state and client-state management (TanStack Query, Redux, Zustand or similar).
• Strong understanding of front-end architecture, performance optimization and web security fundamentals (XSS, CSRF, safe token handling).
• Experience integrating with RESTful APIs and OAuth2 / OpenID Connect authentication flows.
• Practical experience with accessibility standards and building genuinely accessible interfaces.
• Experience with testing frameworks (Jest, Vitest, Testing Library, Playwright or Cypress).
• Comfortable with Git, code review workflows and Agile delivery.
• Good verbal and written English communication skills.
